Wharton County's transfer station sits on Foundation Loop at East Bernard and serves the county's residents for the loads a kerbside bin will not hold. It is a hand-unload site, so plan on doing the lifting yourself. The station number is (979) 335-6159.
Opening is very limited: Tuesday and Saturday only, 7:30am to 3:00pm. Five days a week the gate is shut, which makes this one of the more schedule-sensitive facilities in the region.
The county prices by item and by yard rather than by weight, and Commissioners Court approved a revised schedule on 14 April 2025 that took effect on 1 May 2025. Household garbage is $20.00 a cubic yard, construction material $35.00 a yard, brush $15.00 a yard, and scrap metal $8.00 a yard. A regular level pickup load is $25.00 and a small level load $20.00. Individual bags are cheaper still: $4.00 to $7.00 for a large bag and $2.00 for a small one, with a 55-gallon burn barrel at $15.00.
Furniture and appliances carry set prices. A chair or small couch is $15.00, a large couch $25.00, a mattress or box spring $25.00, and a refrigerator or other appliance $20.00 each. Tyres are $8.00 for a passenger or car tyre, $15.00 for a car tyre still on its rim up to 16 inches, and $20.00 for a large or truck tyre.
Two things are worth working out before you load. Because the pricing is by volume rather than weight, a bulky but light load of packaging or furniture costs more here than at a scale-house site, while a heavy load of soil or roofing costs comparatively less. And because the yard rate applies to household garbage and construction material separately, keeping the two apart on the trailer rather than mixing them can change what you pay at the gate.
