The Waller County Recycling Center at 32159 Morton Road in Brookshire is county-operated and is the main recycling option for a large rural area west of Houston. It takes a genuinely wide range of material, but it works on strict sorting rules and it is not the free-for-all drop-off our listing previously implied. Call ahead on (281) 391-2009 if your load is unusual.
Hours changed on 31 October 2023 and many directories still carry the old schedule. The current times are 8:00am to 5:00pm Tuesday through Friday, and 8:00am to noon on Saturday. Sunday and Monday are closed.
This is residential recycling only. Business, commercial and agricultural waste is refused outright, and no commingled trash is taken. Everything must arrive sorted and clean, in bags or containers, split into the county's categories: plastics stamped grade 1 or 2 only, mixed paper, office and shredded paper, flattened cardboard, food and beverage glass, aluminium beverage cans kept apart from other scrap, general scrap metal, and batteries. Loads that miss the specification may be rejected at the gate.
Several things carry a charge, which is why calling this site free is misleading. Road tyres are $3.00 for passenger and light truck, $12.00 with the rim on, $15.00 for large truck and $20.00 for a duplex or super single; farm and heavy equipment tyres need a price agreed by phone. Petroleum-based automotive fluids — motor oil, transmission, brake, power steering and hydraulic — are $1.00 a gallon and must be free of water and debris. Electronics are priced by weight: televisions, monitors and computer accessories at ten cents a pound, consumer electronics at fifteen, lithium batteries at twenty-five. Computer towers, laptops, phones, tablets and loose wire are taken at no charge. Payment is cash or card, with a surcharge on card.
Refrigerated appliances need their Freon removed before the centre will take them. Household appliances such as coffee makers and vacuums are not accepted at present, and neither are trash, tree limbs and yard debris, books, tempered glass, ceramics, light bulbs, coolant, water, petrol, paint, solvents or chemicals.
