The Somervell County Transfer Station at 1691 FM 56 in Glen Rose publishes more detailed pricing than almost any facility in Texas. If you know what is in your load, you can work out the cost to the dollar before you leave the driveway.
Bagged household trash is charged per bag: $1.75 a bag, or $1.20 for seniors. Past 15 bags the station switches to weighing you instead of counting.
Individual bulky items carry set prices. A mattress or box spring is $10.00 a piece, a couch or loveseat $15.00, a sectional $30.00, a recliner $5.00, and carpet $20.00 per room. Televisions run $5.00 to $15.00 by size. Car tires are $6.00 under 20 inches and $23.50 over, while tractor tires are priced separately at $35.00 small and $50.00 large.
Weighed loads split by residency and material. County residents pay $100.25 per ton for bulk trash with a $35.25 minimum, and $35.25 per ton for brush with an $11.75 minimum. Out-of-county customers and construction loads pay $117.75 per ton for bulk trash, also carrying a $35.25 minimum, and $59.00 per ton for brush with a $23.50 minimum. The brush rate is the standout — hauling yard waste separately rather than mixing it into a general load costs a fraction as much.
Several streams are free: clean, empty and dry cardboard, scrap metal, motor oil, and auto and marine batteries. Separating those out before you arrive directly reduces the weighed portion of your ticket. Arriving untarped adds $6.00 per ton, so cover the load on the way over.
The refusals are specific and safety-driven: pressurized tanks including propane, gas and air compressor tanks; refrigerators, freezers and air conditioners; wet paint; raw meat; dead animals; and liquids and hazardous materials generally.
