Blue Ridge Landfill on FM 521 in Fresno is the largest disposal site in the Houston metropolitan area, taking roughly 4,500 tons a day — more than 1.1 million tons a year — from Harris, Brazoria and Fort Bend counties. It has been operating since 1992 and is run by Republic Services, which maintains a dedicated website for the facility rather than burying it inside a corporate locator.
There is a genuine public drop-off area on site. Republic states plainly that residents may bring loads of household rubbish and clean-up debris to a paved convenience station, separate from the commercial tipping face. That makes it a realistic option for a householder south of Houston clearing a garage or finishing a small renovation, which is not true of every large private landfill in the region.
What the operator will not publish is the price. Republic says only that a fee is charged based on tonnage and waste type, that rates can differ by location, and that you should telephone the landfill in advance for a full list. We will not print an estimate in place of a figure the operator has chosen not to disclose, so the honest position is that the gate rate here is unpublished and has to be obtained by phone before you set out. Ring ahead rather than arriving with an open cheque book.
One restriction is stated without ambiguity: absolutely no hazardous waste or liquids are accepted, and Republic specifically names batteries, paint tins, used oil and anti-freeze as materials that will be turned away. Those need a household hazardous waste programme instead. The gate lifts at 4 in the morning on weekdays and drops at 5 in the afternoon, while Saturday runs from 5:30 a.m. until midday; Sundays and major holidays are closed — an unusually early weekday start that suits contractors more than weekend householders.
