The recycling drop-off at North Lakes Park, on Windsor Drive at Hinkle Drive, is an unstaffed set of containers run by the City of Denton's Solid Waste and Recycling department. It is open during park hours and free to use, which makes it the easiest option in Denton for a load of recycling that will not fit in a blue cart.
Material at the drop-off locations must be sorted by type, which is the main difference from the kerbside programme where everything goes loose into one cart. The containers take flattened cardboard and boxboard, paper including junk mail, magazines and newspaper, aluminium and steel cans but no scrap metal, plastic bottles, tubs and jugs, glass bottles and jars with the lids removed, and cartons. Empty your recycling directly into the receptacles — the city asks specifically that nothing is left bagged.
Several common items are excluded across Denton's whole recycling programme and will not be taken here either: plastic bags, wrap and film, Styrofoam, single-use paper such as paper towels, napkins and tissues, clothing, shoes and textiles, chain, wire, hoses and hangers, lumber, scrap wood and yard waste, food and liquids, soiled or greasy food boxes, electronics and furniture.
The city's second drop-off point is at the Denton Municipal Landfill, 1527 South Mayhill Road, open Monday through Saturday from 7am to 4pm. Electronics are handled separately at Home Chemical Collection, 1527 South Mayhill Road, Building 300; televisions, computers and other screened devices carry a per-device handling fee, while other small household and kitchen electronics are taken free. Erase personal data before dropping anything off. Note that this facility is run by the city, not by Denton County.
