Deer Park residents get something unusually good here and a lot of them do not know it: dumping at the transfer station costs nothing.
The city states there is no fee to use the facility. What it wants instead is proof that you live in Deer Park, in the form of a current utility bill together with a driving licence. Bring both — one without the other has turned people away.
The depository side, for household and heavy trash you unload yourself, runs on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., including the Saturdays before and after holidays. Recycling drop-off keeps longer hours: Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturday from 9 a.m.
You can bring old fencing materials, appliances, furniture, electronics and similar household clear-out material. Lawn mowers are accepted provided the fuel tank has been taken out first.
Three things are refused: large automotive parts, solvents, and flammable liquids. An earlier version of this listing suggested tyres were the problem item; the city's own refusal list names those three instead.
Recycling is single-stream, so no sorting. Paper, cardboard, plastic bottles and metal cans all go into one bin. Food waste, plastic bags and polystyrene foam cups and containers are not wanted and can ruin a whole load.
