The Dalhart City Landfill at 12495 Mackey Road serves this Panhandle city on the Dallam and Hartley county line. Its most useful feature for residents is an allowance the city publishes plainly: free disposal of large items, up to 500 pounds, once a month. The city offers it specifically to stop bulky waste piling up in the alleys, and it is explicit that leaving such items in the alley instead counts as illegal dumping.
Beyond that monthly allowance the city does not publish a gate rate. Dalhart's online fees page is described on the page itself as a partial listing of the most commonly used charges, and the complete fee schedule is only available from the City Secretary at City Hall. Rather than estimate, we say what the city says: contact the landfill or City Hall for the current rate. The landfill's number changed recently and is now (806) 249-2077; the sanitation department is on (806) 244-5511 extension 3221.
For loads too big to haul yourself, the city rents out roll-off trailers. Staff deliver the roll-off to your address and collect it the following day, or on Monday morning for a Friday weekend delivery. The rental fee is $80 plus whatever the landfill charges for the contents, and bookings go through Manuel Cruz Jr. on the sanitation extension above.
Most of Dalhart is served by alley dumpsters, and the colour coding matters. Brown dumpsters take household trash only — no large items, wood, concrete, stone, tyres or metal, all of which damage the dumpsters and the hydraulics on the collection trucks. Green dumpsters are for yard waste only. Household trash in a green dumpster, or waste hauled in from outside the city limits, is treated as illegal dumping.
Free mulch is available for collection both at the landfill and at the City Barn just past the Peters Street railroad crossing. Take a shovel and help yourself. Sanitation charges appear on the same monthly bill as water and sewer.
