The Culebra Road site on the west side is one of just four bulky waste collection centers the City of San Antonio lists today. It exists for the awkward household items that will not fit in a cart - furniture, mattresses, appliances and similar - and it is free, provided you can prove you are a city residential customer.

Proof means your latest CPS Energy statement with the Environmental Fee shown as paid, presented alongside photo identification. Without both documents, expect to be turned away. Commercial waste haulers are not served here at all.

Volume caps are firm. Bulky material is limited to four cubic yards per visit and construction debris to one cubic yard. Nothing may be stacked above the fender line of a truck bed, so a heaped pickup can be refused on sight even if the contents are acceptable.

The site takes auto parts, barbecue grills, flattened cardboard, up to six car tyres without rims, carpeting, small quantities of lumber, furniture, glass and mirrors, large appliances, mattresses, sinks, tubs, counter tops, water heaters and AC units. It refuses bagged garbage and general trash, bed linens and clothes, boards over ten feet, brush and yard waste, hazardous material, railroad ties, soil, rocks and concrete, styrofoam, unbagged insulation, 275-gallon IBC totes, and any mattress or cushion with blood stains or bed bugs.

Gates open Tuesday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., with a short Saturday session ending at midday. The site is shut on Sunday and Monday, which is the single most common wasted trip to a San Antonio bulky centre.
