Our listing has carried 1411 East Broadway for this site. That is wrong. The City of Cuero's collection and recycling centre is at 1315 East Broadway, across from the Antlers Inn, and both the city's own department page and its code of ordinances give that address. We have corrected it here.
The city actually runs two disposal sites and they are priced differently, which is the thing most worth knowing. The Broadway centre is the staffed collection and recycling drop-off. A second brush disposal site sits at 1160 Cheatham Road, and under the city's ordinance a resident receiving city garbage collection may use the Cheatham Road facility at no charge, while brush taken to the Broadway site is charged. The city's published residential brush rate is $0.04 a pound, with the full schedule held in Appendix A of the code and reviewed annually by council.
Access is limited to city residents and to permitted contractor haulers carrying brush from residential property inside the city or its extraterritorial jurisdiction. Everyone must check in with the recycle centre monitor first and show proof of eligibility: residents produce a recent city garbage bill together with a driver's licence or other valid ID, while contractor haulers must present a prepaid ticket card. Contractors must also give the address and telephone number of the resident the brush came from.
The site takes organic material only. No trash, plastic bags, construction materials, bricks, CMU blocks, municipal solid waste, hazardous waste, metal, concrete, or anything from a commercial or industrial site. Bags of organic material must be emptied and the bag taken away again by the customer. Loads go only in the designated spots, and vehicles must stay on marked roads because other parts of the site are restricted.
City crews will chip and collect brush from qualifying residential users, but only where tree trunks are six inches in diameter or less, and never for general land clearing. The ordinance leaves opening hours to the city website rather than fixing them in code, so check there or ring utility customer service on (361) 275-6114 before travelling.
