The City of Waco Transfer Station stands at 6171 South University Parks Drive, and it opened to the public alongside the city's replacement landfill after the old Hannah Hill Road site shut in February 2026. Waco solid-waste customers may bring up to one ton — 2,000 lbs — at no additional charge four times a year, carrying a current city utility bill and photo ID each visit.
Three materials are turned away here that most people assume any municipal site will take. Brush and yard waste are refused outright. So is concrete. A trailer of limbs, clippings or broken slab means a wasted journey, and those loads have to go out to the landfill at Axtell instead.
Beyond the free allowance the posted rate is $72.00 per ton. A $10.00 minimum charge appears on the city's fee page, listed under its landfill heading rather than the transfer-station one, so treat it as the floor and confirm at the scale house.
Worth knowing before you arrive: personal protective equipment is compulsory for customers. The scale house sells a safety vest for $8, a hard hat for $15 and safety glasses for $4, prices inclusive of sales tax. Turning up without kit is not a reason to be sent home, but it is an unplanned cost.
Opening times are Monday to Friday 6.30 a.m. to 5.00 p.m. and Saturday 7.00 a.m. to 11.00 a.m., closed Sunday and on seven named public holidays through the year.
Also refused: paint, liquid waste, nickel-cadmium, lithium and lead-acid batteries, used engine oil and filters, household hazardous waste, ammunition, explosives and fluorescent tubes.
