San Angelo's landfill sits at 3002 Old Ballinger Highway and it is open to the public, but the thing worth knowing is the free allowance. City residents can deliver a load at no charge once per month. What you need at the gate is your most recent water bill - paper or on your phone, both are accepted - plus a valid ID matching the address on it. County residents outside the city are not shut out: they qualify with their most recent electric bill and a valid ID instead, which is an unusually sensible accommodation for people on well water.

Beyond that monthly load we cannot give you a price. San Angelo does not publish a per-ton gate rate; garbage regulations sit in Chapter 11.04 of the city's Code of Ordinances rather than on a public rate card. Ring 325-657-4470 before hauling anything that will not fit inside the free allowance.

The landfill is also the city's e-waste point, and that is free to city residents on the same proof - water bill plus photo ID. It takes computers, televisions, printers, copiers, fax machines, ink cartridges, DVD and VHS players, and even the discs and tapes themselves. Non-city residents pay a small fee for e-waste.

Hours are Monday to Friday 7am to 5.30pm and Saturday 7am to 2pm, closed Sundays. One restriction to plan around: appliances containing refrigerant will not be taken unless a licensed professional has removed the refrigerant and tagged the unit, which usually means booking an HVAC firm first. Mixed metals and appliances without Freon are routed elsewhere, and for tools, paint and building materials the city points residents at Republic Services or at charities such as Habitat for Humanity rather than the gate. Kerbside bulk collection alternates fortnightly with recycling and is capped at five cubic yards, roughly a pickup bed or fifteen bags of yard waste, so a bigger clear-out is exactly what the monthly free load is for.
