The Pflugerville Recycle Center sits behind the Public Works facility at 15500 Sun Light Near Way, Suite B, and the entrance is through North Travis Metro Park rather than off the road itself. It is a residents' site: the city requires you to live in Pflugerville and pay city property taxes, and to show a valid photo ID as proof.
Despite the name, this is not a free drop-off, and the pricing is unusual - it is charged by trailer axle rather than by weight or volume. Under the schedule effective 1 October 2023, a resident bringing brush and limbs pays nothing for a single-axle load, $20 for a double axle and $40 for a triple. Non-residents are charged for brush as well, at $20, $40 and $60 across the same three categories, which sits oddly beside the residency rule printed on the accepted-items page.
Other charges are per unit. Motor oil, transmission fluid and antifreeze run $2 a gallon. Freon-bearing appliances are $45 each. Tires cost $11 apiece, with anything over 38 inches refused and rims not taken at all. Cardboard, paper and scrap metal carry no charge. The centre runs a cashless payment system, so bring a card - cash will not be accepted.
The accepted list also covers aluminum, which the city takes but does not pay for, along with metal appliances, brush and tree limbs up to two cubic yards, leaves tipped out of their bags, vehicle batteries, oil filters, natural Christmas trees, and hot water heaters provided they are metal and fully drained.
The refusals are broad and worth reading before you load up: no chemicals of any kind, no paint, no gasoline, no compressed gas cylinders, no electronics, no glass or plastics, no household trash, no furniture - leave that at the curb for trash pickup - no lumber, building materials or fencing, no medical waste, no fluorescent bulbs, and nothing labelled caution, warning or poison. Neither Recycle Center page publishes opening hours, so call 512-990-6400 before you travel.
