Southside is the City of Lubbock's flagship Citizens Convenience Station, at 1631 84th Street, and it does noticeably more than the other three city sites. All four take bulky household items, yard debris, used motor oil, antifreeze and oil filters, plus the usual paper and aluminium recycling. Southside adds household hazardous waste drop-off, free mulch, and it is the only station that takes household cooking grease.

It costs nothing, because you have already paid: the service is bundled into your regular city solid waste fee. What it costs instead is eligibility. These sites are strictly for City of Lubbock Utility Solid Waste customers hauling household items from their own residence, and you will need a driver's licence with a Lubbock city address together with a current, matching city utility bill. Residents get twelve visits a year per address, so it is worth saving trips for full loads rather than burning one on a single chair.

Tyres are capped tightly - four passenger tyres without rims, per year, per address, across all four stations combined, not four per visit.

The two hard refusals are construction and demolition material, and anything commercial. The city is blunt about the second: hauling waste from a business, a multi-family property, or a governmental site is a violation of state law, as is being paid to haul waste from someone else's home, and the city says violators will be identified and prosecuted for Theft of Service and Illegal Dumping. Glass is not taken either - Good Earth Recycling handles that locally. If you have a large load, or something outside the accepted list, the city directs you to the landfill instead on 806-767-2492 or 806-784-6040, where a disposal fee may apply. Opening is Monday to Saturday, 8am to 5.30pm, closed on city holidays, and if you arrive to a shut gate the city asks that you take the load home rather than leave it outside.
