The City of Levelland Recycling Center is at 902 A&M Lane, and it is a genuinely separate site from the Levelland Landfill out on Bobwhite Road. Confusing the two is the commonest mistake here, because they are covered by a single city page and they accept quite different things.
The opening pattern is the trap. The recycling centre runs 8am until 5pm on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays — which means it is shut every Tuesday and shut all weekend. The landfill keeps its own pattern, open each weekday 8am until 5pm with Saturday mornings added, 8am until noon. A Saturday run to the recycling centre finds a locked gate.
The centre takes aluminium cans, automotive batteries, metals, cardboard boxes, paper, magazines and newspapers, and plastics marked #1 PETE and #2 HDPE. It is also one of the city's used-oil drop-off points, the other being 302 Avenue G, with limitations the city does not spell out in figures.
The refusal list is specific and catches people out: paper plates, napkins and paper towels, glass products of any kind, oil containers, paint cans, plastic bags, liquids and aerosols, hose and pipe, adhesives and hazardous waste.
Bagged household rubbish, construction debris, concrete, appliances and tree limbs belong at the landfill rather than here.
Most of the city's recycling programmes are free to Levelland citizens, though the city notes a disposal fee may apply to tyres. Loads must be tarpaulined or netted under state law when hauling to either site; an unsecured load can attract a surcharge or be refused at the gate.
