Bryan runs no municipal curbside recycling cart at all - private haulers cover that, paid for directly by whoever wants the service. What the city does run is this drive-through site at the Public Works Municipal Service Center on Waco Street, and it handles two things: tires and oils.

It opens 8am to 5pm Monday through Friday and shuts at noon on Saturday. Enter from Waco Street and stay in your vehicle until an attendant reaches you, because this is a staffed drive-through rather than a self-service yard, and staff do the unloading.

Everything here is free to Bryan residents, but the residency test is a real one. Expect to be asked for proof that you are a Bryan resident or a city solid waste customer - a driver's license or a BTU bill will do. Tires and oils generated by a commercial or industrial operation are refused outright, whoever brings them in.

Limits run per visit rather than per year. You may bring up to eight used tires, which must be passenger, light-duty or medium-duty and off the rim; tractor-trailer and heavy equipment tires are not taken. Separately you may bring up to five gallons of used motor oil, oil filters, or cooking oil and grease, handled at the do-it-yourself oil recycling centre on the same site.

Everything else goes elsewhere. Paint, chemicals, electronics and other household hazardous waste are directed to the Twin Oaks Landfill rather than here. One inconsistency worth flagging: the city's wastewater pages describe the Waco Street oil centre as open Monday to Saturday, 8am to 5pm, which does not match the shorter Saturday on the recycling page.
