This facility is closed. Brazoria County states plainly on its own page that the Brazoria County Environmental Center shut in April 2025, and the flyer it still displays carries a "Facility Closed" banner across it. Do not drive to 10310 FM 523 expecting to drop anything off.
We have kept this listing rather than deleting it, because people are still searching for the centre and an honest closure notice is more use than a dead page. What follows is a record of what the site used to do, not a description of a service available today.
The Environmental Center ran as a home chemical collection site and learning centre, operated with the Keep Brazoria County Beautiful Association and backed by Dow, the county, CAER, H-GAC and the TCEQ. It opened on second Saturdays only, 8am to 4pm, and an attendant had to be on site. Household chemicals were taken in containers of one gallon or smaller, up to a five-gallon total: corrosives such as acids, bases and drain cleaner, poisons including pesticides, fungicides, herbicides and wood preservatives, and automotive materials including oil, antifreeze, transmission fluid and brake fluid. Latex paint was never accepted at all.
The refusal list covered explosives and ammunition, regulated waste from regulated entities such as asbestos and PCBs, anything above the 50-pound and five-gallon limits, commercial, industrial and agricultural waste, general trash and debris, 55-gallon drums, medical and radioactive waste, smoke detectors, and electronic waste.
Where should you go instead? For ordinary household waste, the closest site we have confirmed as still operating is Republic's Blue Ridge tip on FM 521 up at Fresno, open weekday mornings and afternoons and on Saturday morning. That is a landfill gate rather than a chemical collection point, so it does not replace what this centre did, and it will not take your paint or pesticides.
