Bastrop County's Transfer Station at 601 Cool Water Drive publishes one of the more detailed fee schedules in Texas, priced by what you arrive in rather than by weight. That makes it easy to work out the cost before you set off, which is unusual for a county facility.
Bagged household garbage is $5.00 a bag up to 40 gallons and $10.00 a bag above that. A pickup truck loaded to the top of the bed is $50.00 for a short bed and $65.00 for a long bed. Trailers are priced by length and by the height of the sides: an 8ft trailer runs $85.00 with 2ft sides, $130.00 with 3ft sides and $175.00 with 4ft sides, climbing through the sizes to $225.00, $335.00 and $450.00 for anything longer than 16ft. A dump truck is a flat $300.00.
Individual items carry their own charges. Appliances are $20.00 each, but refrigerators, freezers and air conditioning units are excluded from that price and from the site altogether. Mattresses, box springs, couches, love seats and recliners are also $20.00 each. Tyres are $3.50 for a passenger car tyre and $25.00 for a commercial truck tyre; tractor tyres are refused. A $25.00 per load surcharge applies to asphalt shingles.
The refusal list is longer than most and worth checking before loading up. The station does not accept oil or oil filters, brush, paint of any type, chemicals of any kind, batteries, or concrete, bricks, rocks and masonry units. The masonry exclusion dates from the station's reopening in November 2020 and catches out anyone clearing a patio or driveway.
Tuesday to Saturday, 8am until 4pm, and shut both Sunday and Monday. The station telephone is (512) 549-5166. The fee schedule above was adopted by the Bastrop County Commissioners Court on 9 November 2020 and is the current published version; because it is now several years old, confirm the figures by phone before a large or expensive load.
