Aransas County runs its transfer station at 872 Airport Road, and there is a wrinkle in the address worth knowing before you set the satnav: the county's own page gives the location as Fulton, while the county offices behind it sit in Rockport. Same road either way, and the site number is (361) 790-0162.

Gates open at nine in the morning and shut at half past four, Tuesday right through to Saturday. Both Sunday and Monday are closed days, and waste collection runs across the whole of the opening window rather than stopping early.

The single most useful thing on the county's notice board is about money: this site takes cash or cheque only, and it will not process a credit or debit card. Turning up with nothing but plastic means turning round again. As for the charges themselves, the county keeps its rates in a separate downloadable schedule last revised on 8 January 2024 rather than printing them on the page, so we are not quoting figures here - ring the number above if the cost decides whether you make the trip.

Two rules cause more refusals here than anything else. Fridges and freezers are only admitted when the refrigerant has already been taken out by a licensed professional and paperwork from that professional describing the removal comes with the appliance; without the documentation the unit is turned away. Separately, brush is governed by a card system. Brush cards are handed out at Environmental Health, 872 Airport Road, on Wednesdays only, between 8am and noon and again from 1pm to 4pm, first come first served while stocks last. A card covers 500 pounds; anything heavier is charged for at the scale when you tip.

Materials the county lists as authorised: household garbage, general rubbish, roofing, tyres, construction material and brush, plus a recycling stream taking used oil, oil filters, anti-freeze, plastic, tin, batteries, aluminium and scrap metal. Materials it states cannot be accepted at all: sewage, hazardous waste, industrial waste, infectious or medical waste, dead animals, radioactive waste, special waste, paint, poisons, concrete, and anything burned or ignitable. The station operates under the Solid Waste Disposal Act and the rules that govern collection and disposal, so the refusals are not discretionary.
