Free self-haul for Dallas residents
This is the big perk for Dallas residents: there’s no charge to haul your own waste from your home to McCommas Bluff Landfill or a transfer station, as long as you’re in a passenger car, pickup or trailer under 15 feet & can prove you live in Dallas.

McCommas Bluff Landfill (5100 Youngblood Rd, 75241) is open Mon–Fri 5 a.m.–8 p.m. & Sat 6 a.m.–4 p.m., closed Sunday. It also takes residential tires, scrap metal & electronics for recycling. Free monthly brush & bulky pickup
Dallas single-family homes get a curbside brush & bulky-item collection once a month, on the week tied to your district. As of July 2026 there’s a cap of 10 cubic yards per month (about ten household ovens’ worth); going over without requesting an oversize collection can bring a fee on your water bill. Place items at the curb the Thursday before your collection week, & keep brush separate from bulky items. Check your collection week on the Dallas Sanitation app or by calling 311.
Hazardous waste, paint, oil & batteries
Paint, motor oil, pool chemicals & batteries must never go in your regular cart or a dumpster — they’re a fire risk. Dallas residents take these to the city’s Home Chemical Collection Center (on Plano Rd), run in partnership with Dallas County, which also holds periodic collection events.
