This is a narrow-purpose site, and knowing that before you drive over saves a wasted trip. Sugar Land's Public Works Service Center on Gillingham Lane is not a general recycling depot and it is not a dump. The city lists exactly two materials it will take here: tires and cooking oil.
Weekdays only, Monday to Friday, the drop-off receives those items between 8am and 5pm. Tires must be passenger tires with the rims removed, and no more than four per delivery. Cooking oil is capped at ten gallons per day, free of charge, and only from residential customers - liquid cooking-grade fats, oils and grease, never petroleum products. If you need help on site, the number is 281-275-2900.
Neither material carries a fee. There is no scale here and no per-ton rate, because nothing brought to this site is weighed.
For household solid waste, Sugar Land routes residents to the Blue Ridge Landfill at 2200 FM 521 Road in Fresno, which takes household items 7am to 4pm on weekdays and 7am to 11am on Saturday. Residents get one free visit a month for up to three cubic yards, and the entry requirements are unusually strict: a valid driver's license and a physical paper copy of a water bill with a matching address, so a photo on your phone will not do. Every visitor must also wear a hard hat and a safety vest.
For general recycling and household hazardous waste, the city points to the Fort Bend County Recycling Center at 1200 Blume Road in Rosenberg, which serves Fort Bend County residents and publishes its own fees. Sugar Land additionally runs two Recycle Round Up drive-through events a year at Mercer Stadium for chemicals and electronics, where a Sugar Land ID and a utility bill are required.
