The Citizens Collection Station on Smith Road is Midland's self-haul site for household junk, and the city is unusually blunt about who may use it: it is for the exclusive use of City of Midland residents hauling items from their own single-family home. Commercial waste of any type is refused, and anyone being paid to haul material from a residential address will be turned away at the gate.
Tuesday through Friday the station takes loads from 10am to 6pm, and on Saturday from 9am to 2pm. There is no published charge - for a qualifying resident load, this is a free drop-off.
The accepted list runs to bulky items such as household furniture and mattresses, white goods including stoves, water heaters, washers and dryers, and the standard recyclables: cardboard, paper, #1 and #2 plastics and aluminum. Brush is taken as well, meaning tree and yard trimmings, but only in single-axle trailer loads, only from residents rather than landscapers or contractors, and only where the load is properly secured.
The refusal list is where most wasted trips come from. Construction material of any type is out, and so are fencing, concrete, dirt, rock, tires and hazardous waste. If you are clearing a remodel rather than a garage, this is not the right site.
Midland runs two other drop-off points that overlap with this one. Butt's Recycling Center at 26 W Industrial Loop takes plastics #1 and #2, paper, cardboard and aluminum Monday to Friday, 8am to 4pm. The Citizens Convenience Center at 6400 W Highway 80 keeps the same hours as Smith Road. The city's page was last updated in May 2025; questions go to 432-685-7278.
