Bitters Brush Recycling Center sits at 1800 Wurzbach Parkway on the north side of San Antonio, and as of July 2026 it is the only brush drop-off the City of San Antonio still operates. Everything green that arrives here is ground into mulch, which is why the acceptance list is narrower than most people expect.

Pricing is by weight, in small steps: twenty pounds or less costs a quarter, and every further twenty-pound increment adds another quarter. There is no tonnage rate and no minimum load, so a couple of bags of clippings costs pocket change while a full trailer is weighed and billed the same way.

Bring two things or you will be turned around at the scale: a recent CPS Energy bill showing you have paid the Environmental Fee, and a photo ID. This is a residential service, tied to a city solid waste account.

Four categories are welcome - shrubs, tree branches, woody vines, and leaves in paper bags. Plastic bags of leaves are refused outright, and so is paper bagging held together with plastic tape. Grass clippings are refused too, which catches people out, as do soil and rocks, car tyres, construction or roofing debris, household hazardous waste, general trash and bulky household items.

Cover the load. San Antonio's tarp law carries a $5 penalty at city disposal and processing sites for anyone who turns up uncovered. On the way out you can take coarse ground mulch away free all year, though you load it yourself; fine ground mulch costs $0.03 per pound in twenty-pound increments and staff will bulk load that into a truck or trailer. Open Monday to Saturday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., closed Sundays and city holidays.
