The Decatur dumpsite sits at 127 Private Road 4195, just south of the Wise County Fairgrounds, and it is one of several run by Wise County Public Works. Two rules decide whether you can use it at all.
First, it is for Wise County residents' household trash only. The county states plainly that commercial trash is not accepted. Second — and this is the one that turns people around at the gate — dump trailers are not allowed, and no trailer loads of any kind are taken after 5 p.m.
Because of that, this is not the place for a renovation skip or a contractor load. It is a household site, and the county treats it as one.
Charging works by bag volume rather than by weight. The county asks that you bring the box your bin bags came in, if you still have it, so staff can see how many gallons each bag holds. The current price list is held at the site rather than published online, so ring before a large load.
Decatur opens six days, Monday through Saturday, from 8 in the morning until half past five. The site number is (940) 627-0815 and Wise County Public Works is on (940) 627-6655.
Recycling is available but reduced. Since 16 April 2018, by order of the Commissioners Court, glass is no longer taken for recycling anywhere in the county — it now goes in as ordinary household trash. Plastic, tin cans, batteries, newspaper, mixed paper, box board, corrugated cardboard and aluminium cans are still collected.
