The City of Alpine owns a landfill east of town on US-90, and it is the disposal point for the far west Texas communities around Brewster County. The city does not run it: the site is contract operated by Texas Disposal Systems, whose Alpine branch has served the area since 2007. That split matters, because the city and the operator answer different questions.
The operator's address for the Alpine facility is 2501 East Highway 90. Hours are Monday to Friday, 8:00am to 5:00pm, with the site closed both Saturday and Sunday, and shut entirely for Thanksgiving, for Christmas and for New Year. The Alpine office number is (432) 837-0845 and TDS customer care is (800) 375-8375.
No gate rate is published for this site. TDS maintains a public gate-rate schedule, but it covers the company's Central Texas landfill and transfer stations rather than the contract-operated Alpine facility, which leaves no verified number for us to publish on this page. The city directs all refuse service questions to TDS on the number above, and City of Alpine sanitation rates to city hall on (432) 837-3301.
Two access points are worth checking before you drive out. Residential accounts outside the city limits are charged one and a half times the in-city rate, and citizens living outside the city who want to put household refuse into a city container must first buy a Refuse Permit from the city. Refuse charges carry local and state sales tax on top.
Because TDS publishes collection information for Alpine rather than walk-up disposal terms, confirm with the operator whether the gate takes public loads on the day you plan to go, what the minimum charge is, and which payment methods are accepted. TDS does not take paint, bulk liquids, chemicals or household hazardous waste anywhere in its network, and it charges a fee for loads that are not properly covered and tied down. For recycling, electronics and yard waste, the city's Hal Flanders Recycling Center on Cemetery Road is the better destination.
