The Baytown Green Center at 1601 West Main Street is the city's own disposal and recycling facility, and it is open to Baytown residents only. It is explicitly not for commercial use.

Getting in depends on two documents matching each other. You need a valid driver's licence and a City of Baytown water bill, and the name on the licence must match the name on the bill. An address alone will not do it.

This is not a free site, and that is the thing most worth knowing before you load up. The Green Center charges per load per visit, the rates are posted at the gate, and it is cash only — no card. Because the city does not publish those rates online, call before you drive out and bring notes.

What it accepts is broader than the name suggests: household debris, brush and tree limbs, electronic waste, and the full range of recyclable materials. Televisions, computers and printers all go through the electronics stream, which gives Baytown residents a route for old equipment that does not involve a landfill.

Plastic bags are taken as their own stream. That is genuinely useful — plastic film jams the sorting equipment at most single-stream facilities, so almost nothing else in the area will accept it.

The Green Center also handles donation items, meaning goods still fit for reuse can be diverted rather than buried.
