The City of Littlefield Landfill lies on FM 2197 north-east of town, in Lamb County, and takes both Type I and Type IV waste. Alongside it the city runs a separate citizens collection station for smaller household loads. The gate number is (806) 385-4246.
Waste acceptance runs 8am to 4pm Monday through Thursday and 8am to 3pm on Friday, with the site closed on major holidays and in bad weather. Loads that are not properly secured, strapped or tarped attract a $25 unsecured fee. Food and drink-related items must be bagged separately, refrigerators and freezers must be tagged with the refrigerant removed, and household garbage has to be kept apart from construction debris.
The gate rate is $39.00 a ton. Residents holding an active city water bill get an allowance on top of that, and the city publishes two versions of it. The landfill notice posted on the city's site says three loads a month, excluding shingles. The city's own solid waste ordinance, section 13.03.008 as amended by Ordinance 2022-0823-1 of 23 August 2022, sets the allowance at four cubic yards or 2,600 pounds a month, against a photo ID and a water bill dated to the current month. The attendant keeps a daily log against that allowance. We state both; the posted notice is the more recent statement of practice.
At the citizens collection station, current residential customers may drop two half-ton pickup loads or two 18-foot trailer loads a week within the monthly cap. County residents who pay no city garbage bill are charged $15.00 per half-ton pickup or 18-foot trailer load, and oversized loads $15.00 a cubic yard. Regular tyres up to a 24-inch rim are $5.00 each; oversized and semi-truck tyres are refused outright. No commercial contractor or business may use the station at all.
