The Lamesa City Landfill is the designated disposal site for this Dawson County city, and under the city's solid waste ordinance it is effectively the only lawful option: disposing of waste anywhere within the city or within 5,000 feet of the city limits, other than at the landfill or an approved recycling, composting or collection site, is prohibited. The one exception is for households outside the city limits where kerbside collection is not available, who may use any state-approved method that does not create a nuisance.

We do not carry a rate for this site. The city's ordinance at Article 13.02 makes it unlawful to leave refuse at the landfill without paying "the prescribed fees and surcharges", but the schedule of those fees is adopted separately and is not published on the city's website or in the code. The landfill can be reached directly on (806) 200-0050 for a current quote — note that this is a newer number than the general sanitation line and is the one the city now lists.

Commercial haulers face an additional requirement. The ordinance makes it unlawful for a transporter of solid waste to dump at the landfill without presenting a certificate confirming that their routes have been arranged so as to eliminate non-allowable waste from the loads they bring. All material is deposited under the direction of, and inspected by, an authorised attendant, so loads are checked at the face rather than only at the scale.

The gate stands open on weekdays from 8am until 6pm, and Saturdays from 8am until 3pm, with no Sunday service. The weekday closing time of 6pm is later than most municipal sites of this size, which makes it usable after work.
