The City of Weslaco Recycle Center operates out of the Public Works yard at 1912 Joe Stephens Avenue, and it is the city's main drop-off point. Weslaco brought solid waste collection in-house at the start of 2022 and has been expanding the recycling side since, helped by grant money.

We have to be straight about the limits of what is published here. The city's recycling page gives the location, the purpose of the programme and a downloadable list of acceptable materials, and it stops there. No opening hours appear anywhere on the page, and no charge — or confirmation that there is none — is stated for dropping recyclables off. Rather than guess at either, we would suggest ringing Public Works on (956) 973-3146 before you set out.

The accepted materials sheet is specific. Paper covers newspaper, phone books, magazines, cardboard, office paper and folders, with staples and paper clips removed, and nothing wet. Aluminium cans are taken rinsed. Plastic number 1 means bottles: soft drink, water, mouthwash, peanut butter jars, salad dressing and vegetable oil. Plastic number 2 covers milk jugs, juice bottles, bleach and detergent bottles, oil bottles and yoghurt tubs. Both plastic streams should be rinsed with lids discarded. Tin cans go in with lids removed, and glass bottles with lids, rings and corks taken off.

The city also runs mobile recycling trailers at the Lower Rio Grande Valley Development Council, 301 West Railroad Street, and has announced a second southside location on South Border Avenue. This listing carries no fee figure because the city publishes none — not because we have assumed the service is free.
