The 130 Environmental Park landfill sits east of SH-130 and north of FM 1185, a few miles above Lockhart in Caldwell County. It opened in 2021 as the first new municipal solid waste landfill in Central Texas in roughly three decades, developed by Green Group Holdings and Integrated Waste Solutions Group across a site of more than 1,200 acres, of which about 500 are given over to disposal. The facility is now operated under the Republic Services banner.
For Lockhart residents the arrangement is unusually generous. The City of Lockhart states that residential customers may drop off waste at the landfill at no additional charge and an unlimited number of times a year — there is no annual quota and no per-visit fee, because the cost is already carried in the city's solid waste service. The service is strictly residential: no commercial or industrial drop-offs are permitted under the arrangement.
Getting in requires paperwork. Enter through the gate off the 183 service road, then present a government-issued photo ID together with a utility bill proving Lockhart residency. Each drop-off is capped at six cubic yards of refuse, so a large clear-out may take more than one trip. Loads arriving unsecured, uncovered or untarped are subject to an additional surcharge, and salvaging or scavenging on site is prohibited.
The refused list is long and worth checking before loading. Lead-acid batteries, sewage, used motor oil and filters, sludge, grease trap and grit trap waste, whole or scrap tyres, refrigerators, freezers and air conditioners containing CFCs, dead animals and slaughterhouse waste, liquid waste, regulated hazardous waste, PCB-contaminated material, medical waste, paint and out-of-state waste are all excluded. Hours are 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday to Friday, with Saturday opening from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. Residents outside the Lockhart city limits should telephone 512-772-5099 about commercial rates.
