Pine Hill Landfill is the disposal site for the Longview area, sitting south of the city near the junction of Highway 31 and FM 1252. It is important to be clear about who runs it: the City of Longview does not operate a landfill at all. Pine Hill is operated by Republic Services, and the city's role is limited to arranging a discount for its own sanitation customers.
That discount is real but unquantified. Longview residents who have city sanitation service can receive a reduced rate at Pine Hill, and the city's own page directs residents to contact Republic Services on 800-678-7274 to find out the current amount. The discount does not apply to commercial waste. We do not publish a per-ton or per-load figure for this site because neither the city nor Republic publishes one; anyone planning a trip should call ahead for a quote rather than rely on a number found elsewhere.
Several materials are refused, and the list is more restrictive than at most Texas landfills. Lead acid batteries cannot be disposed of here. Neither can oil or oil filters. Tyres are refused unless they have been split, quartered or shredded first, which effectively rules out dropping off whole car tyres. Refrigerators, air conditioning units and any other appliance containing chlorofluorocarbons will not be accepted unless the refrigerant has already been removed by someone certified to do so, and you must bring the certification letter with the unit.
State law requires that all loads be tarped in transit, and the landfill applies that rule at the gate.
Opening hours as published by the City of Longview are Monday to Thursday 7am to 5pm, Friday 7am to 4pm, and Saturday 8am to 11am. The Saturday finish is early and several third-party listings give it wrongly as noon; the city's figure is the one we carry. For household items too large for kerbside collection, Longview also runs a bulky item service four times a year, which is often cheaper than a landfill trip for a single mattress or appliance.
