Kerrville owns its landfill, transfer station and composting facility outright, and contracts Republic Services to operate them. That split explains why the rate card lives on the city's website rather than the operator's: it is the City of Kerrville that publishes what you pay.
The gate rate is $88.97 per ton. Loads under 360 pounds are charged a minimum of $25.43 instead. There is also a $25.00 penalty per occurrence for arriving with an uncovered load, which is worth remembering because state law requires the load be secured anyway. Cash, cheque and credit cards are all accepted at the scale house.
City residents with an active trash account get two free trips a year. The city calls them vouchers; one voucher covers one trip, and you collect them by ringing Public Works on (830) 258-1221 or calling in at City Hall, 701 Main Street. Bagged household trash, brush and yard waste can all go in on a voucher. Construction debris cannot. Refrigerators, freezers and air-conditioning units are only accepted where a licensed technician has reclaimed the refrigerant and tagged the unit.
Opening times run 7:30am to 4:50pm on weekdays — the ten-minute margin exists so the site can close at five — and 8am to 1pm on Saturdays. One address note: the city's landfill page gives the physical address as 200 Landfill Road, while the site is signposted off Loop 534, the Veterans Highway, east of town.
