The Longview Compost Site on Swinging Bridge Road is where the city's yard waste goes and where residents get the results back for nothing. Bring limbs, leaves, grass clippings and general garden waste; take away finished compost and mulch free, up to 2.5 cubic yards a week, as available. If you want it loaded into your vehicle by tractor you will need to sign a release form, which can be printed in advance or filled in at the site.

Non-residential customers and commercial haulers are treated quite differently and the city's pages are worth reading carefully here, because they do not fully agree with each other. One page says commercial haulers may buy compost and mulch at $15.00 per cubic yard plus tax; another says compost and mulch are currently available to residential customers only. If you are a business, ring 903-237-2735 and confirm before making the trip.

The site is also the answer to a question that catches out a lot of Longview residents: glass. It is not accepted in the kerbside recycling cart, and the compost site at 2020 Swinging Bridge Road is where the city tells you to take it. Also excluded from the cart are food, liquids, styrofoam, mylar, wood, plastics #3 to #7 and clothing.

Opening is Tuesday to Saturday, 8am to 4.30pm, with hours varying around holidays. For kerbside yard waste, note that the city will not collect yard waste in plastic bags - use paper yard waste bags or a labelled personal container - and collection is capped at eight cubic yards per customer per week. Limbs over 3 inches thick or 3 feet long need a bulky item pickup booked on 903-237-1250 rather than a bundle at the kerb.
