The Southside Bulky Waste Collection Center at 5450 Castroville Road on the west side of San Antonio has appeared for years on city notices as one of the drop-off points where residential customers could bring furniture, mattresses and other bulky items. We can no longer confirm that it is operating, and the fee claims this page previously carried have been removed.

The City of San Antonio Solid Waste Management Department publishes a current list of its bulky waste collection centres. As checked on 16 August 2026 that list names four sites — Bitters at 1800 Wurzbach Parkway, Frio City Road at 1531 Frio City Road, Culebra at 7030 Culebra Road, and Rigsby Road at 2755 Rigsby Road. Southside is not among them. Absence from the operator's own current list is a finding in its own right, so rather than repeat a free-drop-off claim the city no longer makes, this page states the position plainly.

For a resident on the south-west side, the nearest confirmed alternative is the Frio City Road centre at 1531 Frio City Road in 78226, a short distance east of the Castroville Road site. Access rules are the same across all four centres: bring a recent CPS Energy bill showing payment of the environmental fee together with photo identification, and if you pay that fee the visit costs nothing.

Limits apply at every centre. Bulky items are capped at four cubic yards per visit and construction material at one cubic yard. Household rubbish in bags is not accepted, nor are brush, leaves and yard waste, clothing, bed linen, boards over ten feet, railroad ties, soil, rock and concrete, styrofoam, unbagged insulation, or mattresses and cushions showing blood stains or bed bugs. Material may not sit higher than the fender line of the truck bed carrying it, and anything delivered by a commercial waste hauler is refused. The centres run Tuesday through Friday from eight in the morning to five, and Saturday mornings from eight until twelve. Call 311 to confirm the status of the Castroville Road site.
