The Southside Bulky Waste Collection Center at 5450 Castroville Road appears widely in older coverage of San Antonio's free landfill days, and for years it was one of the city's drop-off points for furniture, mattresses and similar household bulk.

We cannot confirm it is still operating. Checked on 28 July 2026, the City of San Antonio's Bulky Waste Collection Centers page lists four sites - Bitters on Wurzbach Parkway, Frio City Road, Culebra Road and Rigsby Road. Castroville Road is not among them, and every reference we can find to this location dates from 2020 or earlier.

That absence is not proof of closure, but it is enough that we will not print a fee or an opening time for it. Ring 311, or 210-207-6000 from outside the city, and ask before you load the truck.

If you need a bulky drop-off on the south or west side today, Frio City Road at 1531 Frio City Road is the nearest confirmed alternative, and Culebra Road covers the west. Neither charges city residential customers who arrive with photo identification and a CPS Energy statement proving the Environmental Fee is current. Both run a weekday schedule from Tuesday onward and close at midday on Saturday.
