Greenwood Farms Landfill sits at 12920 Farm to Market Road 2767, the old Kilgore Highway, about five miles east of Loop 323. It is owned by the City of Tyler and operated under contract by Republic Services, which is why the disposal terms differ so sharply depending on whether you are a Tyler utility customer or not.
City of Tyler residents use the landfill on a utility bill programme rather than by paying at the gate. A current City of Tyler residential water bill entitles the holder to three cubic yards — roughly a pickup bed — at no charge. Any yardage beyond that is charged at the landfill's current gate rate per yard. The rules are strict and the landfill applies them exactly as the city sets them. You must show photo identification whose name or address matches the bill. The bill must be an original including the top portion, not a copy, a payment receipt or a billing summary; email-only customers must print the notification. Each bill is good for one use, no bill more than 45 days old is accepted, and late bills printed in red are refused, as are commercial bills.
Two exclusions catch people out. Appliances are not covered by the utility bill allowance at all, so they are charged separately. And every load must be tarped, both because state law requires covered loads in transit and because the site applies a "no tarp" fee to those that arrive uncovered.
Everyone else — Smith County residents outside the city, contractors, and anyone hauling commercial waste — may use the landfill but pays Republic's gate rate. The city does not publish that rate on its own page and instead directs customers to contact the landfill on (903) 566-5007 for a quote, so we do not carry a figure for it.
The landfill is open Monday to Friday 6:30am to 4:30pm and Saturday 6:30am to noon, closed Sundays. Note that the Saturday closing time is noon on the city's own page, earlier than several third-party listings suggest.
