The City of Grand Prairie Landfill is at 1102 MacArthur Boulevard, and its pricing is refreshingly simple compared with most municipal sites: one flat charge per load rather than a weighed ticket.

Residents pay $10.00 per load, and the city allows five free loads a year before that charge applies — but only against a current Grand Prairie water bill no more than 30 days past its due date. Let the bill lapse and every load costs $10.00. Loads from apartments or other homes without curbside collection do not qualify for the free allowance at all and are charged at commercial rates.

Commercial customers are weighed instead. The commercial rate is $40.00 per ton with a $10.00 minimum per load, so even a very light business load carries the ten-dollar floor.

The accepted list leans heavily towards bulky and recoverable material: metals, aluminum, wood and brush, concrete, fencing, refrigerators, sofas, televisions and electronics. Clean soil is free but taken Monday to Friday by appointment only, and the city has it tested first — call before you turn up with a truck of dirt. Livestock is accepted at $15.00 per animal, unusual enough to be worth knowing if you are on acreage nearby.

Tires have their own price list rather than a single rule. Auto and pickup tires are $1.00 each with a limit of four per visit, truck tires $5.00 each up to two per visit, and tractor tires $10.00 each, one per visit. Past those limits the prohibited list takes over, which excludes tires unless they have been quartered.

Clean pallets travel the other way: Grand Prairie residents can buy them from the landfill at $5.00 each.

The rest of the turn-away list covers lead acid batteries, used oil filters, liquids, pesticides, CFCs, PCBs, household hazardous waste, and other regulated wastes. Household hazardous waste goes instead to a city collection event or to the Environmental Collection Center at 6400 Bridge Street in Fort Worth.
